5 Steps to Mastering the Sit-Down

1. Enter with both gun barrels loaded. If a mob guy engages in a sit-down either inexperienced or unprepared, he will literally be eaten up by the mob executives who have surely mastered the techniques of their trade. His position in the negotiation can have the strongest argument at the table, but if he doesn’t know how to play the internal dynamics, he’ll be left standing with his pants down and his pockets empty. If he falls into a trap the more experienced participants will inevitably set in the negotiation, he will end up a loser and will not be given the opportunity to renegotiate his position—at least not at the current sit-down. All decisions are binding. The only thing more final than the decision is disregarding it. Preparation is vital to a mob guy’s success, his livelihood, and sometimes his life.

Because of my experience with sit-downs, prepping for business meetings or negotiations is second nature. In either case the basics are the same:
